In today’s untimely and haphazard lifestyle, the most common disorders seen in the population are digestive disorders.

Untimely meals, frequent hostelling, sleep deprivation, skipping meals, and neglecting natural urges, all these and many other factors are contributing major roles in these highly evident disorders.

Such digestive disorders are not limited to physical symptoms. They reflect on the mind of a person.

You might have seen an advertisement for remedies for constipation on TV, right?

The anxious and repressive look on the face of that person tells the whole story.

It shows the pure agony he is facing internally–the feeling of immovable blockedness makes the person restless and panic.

This plugged-up condition of constipation is common among all ages.

Three or fewer bowel movements per week are typical for those with the condition.

Constipated people may have difficulty passing faces or may strain excessively when doing so.

It's possible that some people will have random bouts of symptoms in which they feel constipated and are unable to defecate on a regular basis.

Extra straining caused by chronic constipation can cause abdominal cramping, gas, and rectal pain.

One should not neglect this habit of chronic constipation as a minor thing.

According to Ayurveda, in the long run, it can cause more severe ailments including heart, asthma, etc. so proper care is necessary.

Causes of Constipation

  • One of the most common reasons for constipation and hard stools is a lack of water intake.
  • Less intake of fibres.
  • Neglecting exercise and living a sedentary lifestyle also play a role.
  • Constipation and other digestive problems are common side effects of many medications taken in the long term.
  • Frequent travel, untimely eating, and irregular sleeping patterns can make your digestive system go haywire.
  • A typical disease of colons namely, Lazy Bowel Syndrome, wherein there is an abnormal contraction of the colon which results in stopping the stool from getting evacuated.
  • Pregnant women generally face the issue of constipation due to increased pressure on the colon from the baby.

How to Get Rid of It?

  • Stomach Massage with oil in a smooth, rhythmic, and circular motion. Castor or sesame oil is very useful for the same. Hot-water bag fomentation which can relieve the problem effectively should follow it.
  • Daily consumption of black resins just before going to sleep helps better.
  • The use of castor oil is another alternative. But it needs to be used after consulting a physician as in some people it may lead to lose motions. Buttermilk or milk can be used along with this to improve function.
  • Body activity is the key to the solution. Yoga is better than rigorous gym workouts. Bending in either direction stimulates the intestines.
  • Regular use of good quality cow milk and ghee is essential not just for gut health but also for overall health.
  • All of us have heard the saying - 'Early to bed, early to rise.' It's also important for regular bowels. Burning the night oil doesn’t help at all, refrain from it.
  • Harbhara, chana, potatoes, sprouts, and bakery products must be avoided strictly.
  • try drinking some ginger and cumin tea, if the cause of the constipation is indigestion.
