Ayurveda advises two types of treatments for disease management:
1. Shamana is advocated if the vitiation of doshas is mild to moderate and involving fewer regions of the body and peripheral channels.
2. Shodhana is advocated if the vitiation of doshas is severe and has occupied many areas of the body in deeper tissues.
Panchakarma therapy helps in eliminating these vitiated doshas and cleanses the body at macro and micro levels giving a more permanent effect.
Ayurved classical texts praise the Panchakarma therapy in all chronic diseases, especially related to Skin, Digestive System, Musculoskeletal system, Respiratory System and Urogenital system.
